Borrowing Rules

According to the Hernando County Code (Ordinance No. 83-1), using a false name, address or someone else’s card is strictly prohibited.

Books and other materials can be borrowed from one library branch and returned to another. A patron can request any circulating item in the system and it will be sent via library courier to the branch of their choice.

There are no limits on the number of items a person may check out, except as follows:

4-day (Entertainment) DVD’s: 5 per card
28-day (Instructional) DVD’s: 5 per card (yes, you can have a total of 10 DVD’s out at one time!)
Magazines: 4 per card

Loan Periods

Books:  28 days (New Books: 14 days)
Audio Books: 28 days
DVDs (Entertainment): 4 days
DVDs (Instructional): 28 days
Magazines: 14 days
Interlibrary Loan Materials: 28 days
Hotspots & Chromebooks: 14 days

Renewals

Most items are renewable once, providing there are no outstanding hold requests. Some reserve titles have a 14-day loan period and cannot be renewed. Interlibrary loan materials cannot be renewed. Patrons may renew items online in My Library Account or telephone renewals may be taken at any library site.

Fines & Fees

Fines are $.10 per day per item for most materials. Exceptions are $1.00 a day for overdue DVDs or Interlibrary Loan items. $5 a day for Hotspots and Chromebooks. The maximum fine for materials is $5.00 per item and $25 for Hotspots and Chromebooks. Replacement library cards cost $1.00.
